[The Academic Foundation & The Pause] The journey of 5521 began in 2007, when Chao X. graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts. Afterward, life led him toward different responsibilities—he served as an artist's assistant and a university teacher. Though his daily path changed, the artist’s perspective remained, quietly observing the world, collecting the fragments of life, and waiting for the right moment to return to pure creation.

[The Clarity of the Road] Between 2019 and 2020, Chao X. set out on a solo motorcycle journey across China, covering over 27,000 kilometers. This long-distance solitude allowed him to disconnect from the noise and reconstruct himself from the fragments of his experiences. Through years of deep reading, painting, and reflection, he found his clarity: he would follow internal guidance and build a space where his artistic ideas could breathe freely.

[5521: A Reflection of Self] Established in Beijing in 2023, 5521 is more than just a brand; it is a "microcosm" reflecting the observations and thoughts of Chao X. He decided to move beyond traditional titles and started bringing the "strange and wonderful" ideas in his mind to life, one by one.

The Headwear: Our first collection, THE MICROCOSM, is the first gift from this journey. By stitching together fabrics of different textures and personalities, it attempts to capture a certain interplay. To me, the world can also be seen as a random yet orderly patchwork.

The Future: 5521 will continue to evolve into unexpected forms—discovering new fragments, making more interesting attempts, and presenting new worlds to those who seek them.

[The Code of 5521] 5521 is the founder's Personal Code. During those 27,000 kilometers of solitude, these four digits were his digital anchor. In his native language, the phonetic sound of 5521 carries a gentler meaning: “I, I love you.” It represents a return to Love: love for the act of stitching things together, empathy for a complex world, and love for every soul who sees a reflection of themselves in our small universe.

[Our Philosophy] 5521 does not define a style; it records a thought. We honor tradition while embracing the modern, and looking forward to the future with even greater anticipation. We believe that the best art can be worshipped from afar, but it can also walk truthfully through this world, up close, alongside you and me.
