The Elephant

This piece stems from an unexpected, visceral encounter.
A close friend of mine is a master taxidermist, a world champion in his field. During a visit to his studio, I watched him working on an elephant specimen. Looking at this colossal creature, severed and split in two, an inexplicable urge to create instantly washed over me.
We don't always have to be so profound; sometimes, sheer interest is reason enough to put brush to canvas.
This real-world scene was, in itself, a visual experience unlike anything I had ever encountered before. The moment it materialized before my eyes, the sheer impact of it struck me instantly. Rather than manufacturing a grand narrative, I wanted to respond purely to the intrigue of the moment, orchestrating a visual experience I had never explored before.
