Exploring the Possibilities

This series was created using plaster facial feature models and acrylics. It is simply a showcase of four different techniques—an exploration of painting’s possibilities.

So often in painting, we still rely on very ancient methods. Of course, I absolutely admire that kind of beauty; I am merely asking: are there other possibilities?

In this work, I used dots for the eye, lines and planes for the nose, lines for the mouth, and color for the ear.

Within these fixed forms, historically cemented by tradition, the contrast of techniques is amplified to its absolute limit. In this tug-of-war between the classical and the contemporary, an eye remains an eye, a nose remains a nose.

They are still themselves, yet they are themselves no longer.
